GREAT DAY GREAT RACE

Today was the Roof Dog Run 5K that Allie and I were doing. This would be her first race. We got to the race in plenty of time to pick up our packets. Don't you just love this shirt. It's the reason I signed up for the race !
We went back to the car and looked in our goody bags, yum chocolate in there, now I really like this race. Since we were early we pinned on our numbers and then waited.
WE lined up and off Allie went. All I saw was the back of her shirt and then nothing. As I was nearing the 1.5 mile we passed. "you're doing great " I yelled. Little did I know how great.

Big surprise! Allie took first place with a time of 28:59.

We were really happy.

I took 3rd with a time of 40:02. Grandpa took our picture when we got home.

Don't you love this trophy! We treated ourselves to a pedicure later in the day.

NEW RUNNING BUDDY

I asked Allie if she wanted to run with me today so she could see how long 3:1 miles were. We are signed up for a 5K on the 27th. It's the Roof Top Dogs race and they have the cutest shirts, also the newscaster we watch every morning is going to be there. It took a bit of convincing but she finally agreed. Anyways about today's run. She asked if we could take the dogs and since Coco is the only one good on a leash I agreed. We took the trail past the municipal building because it has more shade and we were starting out at noon. Coco was loving it but it was warmer than I thought and I decided to stop running and we just walked, stopping for several water breaks. We finished with 2:25 miles. Not a great run but at least I got out. Now I will have to make up miles this week.

NEW SHOES

Yesterday I trained with Katy. We worked on biceps and back. She had some new moves and I commented how tough it was. " It must be that book I'm reading" she replied. " What book is that " I asked. " The one by Jillian" no wonder they were hard. At least she didn't stand on my legs while I did wall sits.
After the gym and my 25 minutes of cardio on the bike I headed to my favorite running store. Time for some new shoes. Randell was working and when I told him how long I had my shoes he laughed and said " throw those shoes out"
I am now the owner of Mizuno ( sounds like a car) Wave Creation 9. I wanted pink but they only came in blue. Maybe next year.

This morning I thought I'd give the shoes a try so did an easy run. I love these shoes.

GONE

Today I went out for my usual run wearing the shoes I always wear. Things started out fine but then I noticed that my shoes just didn't seem to have any bounce to them and my feet were feeling a bit achy. Could it be that the life has gone out of them? I have had them for over a year and wear them to run every time I go out. I guess I'm going to have to go shoe shopping.

NUTS !

Yesterday I was doing part of my run backwards and today I decided to reverse my course and try it the other direction. I was surprised, it took me longer. The hills that use to be up were down and the hills that were down were now up.
The weather is holding out with cool temps. which makes it much nicer to go out. I did have to stop at Kids Kastle for water, maybe I should start carrying some with me.

THANKS TO IKE

Sunday morning and I had a run to do. I will admit it took me awhile after I was up before I started out. The weather was beautiful, a cool breeze and blue sky. You couldn't ask for much more.I guess the nice weather is a result of Ike. There were lots of people out on the trails. I was sticking to my usual route with plans to make it up a few more hills running instead of walking. On the ones I couldn't run up I would walk up backwards. I just read that this uses different muscles than forward walking. If you try this just remember to check behind you every now and than to make sure no one is coming at you.

BEAUTIFUL DAY

I dropped Allie at school and then went to park so I could do my run this morning. There was a slight breeze and I thought it would be a good running day. I followed the trail from Briar Hill around to the old path and then back to Kids Kastle. By the time I made it back I was dripping in sweat. I don't know what happened to that breeze I had felt earlier.

Yesterday I was at the gym and we worked on core. I did a lot of abs and am feeling it today.

BAA TER GET RUNNING

This morning didn't look very promising. The sky was grey and the weatherman was saying rain again today. I knew if I didn't go out this morning chances were I wouldn't run today. After dropping Allie at school I parked at Kids Kastle, strapped on my Garmin and took off. The humidity was terrible but there was no sun shinning down. I managed to run up some of the hills but not all. Just as I was nearing the parking lot it started to sprinkle. Made it back just in time !

RAINY DAY

It's raining today. It started this morning when I left the gym. A slow, steady, rain. An all day rain. No chance of running outside.

That's the bad news, the rain. The good news is I had a great training session with my new trainer. I explained how I had no strength in my right hamstring and how Shayla and I had been working on making it stronger. So you guessed it. She started me out on legs. Oh my gosh, they felt like noodles when I was finished and I was tempted to just go home after the session but then decided it was early I might as well do some cardio. Since my legs were very tired I chose the bike so I could sit. I did an easy 30 minutes. I think I'm going to like the earlier training hours it will give me a chance to get cardio in and maybe some classes.

Race Report

Yesterday I was signed up for the Run for Recovery race in Farmers Branch. I did this race last year with Christy and came in 3rd in my age group. This year Christy was not able to go because she has classes on Saturday. I was a little nervous going on my own. This was the first time I had no family members or friends running with me.
I arrived in plenty of time and then as I was waiting in my car I saw my friend Maggie with her little girl. They were going to do the kids fun run. We went over to get my chip and ran into Tina. She had been in our running class and was going to do the 5K. Great, now I wasn't alone.
We lined up together and Maggie stood on the side to cheer us on at the start. I soon pulled ahead and ran the first mile before I took a walk break. I was hoping to get my time under 40 minutes this race. They had changed the course from last year and it offered more shade. There still was a long hill to go up but then you turned around so I had the hill to go down and pick up my pace. Just after the 2 mile mark there was a water station. I was carrying my own water but did take some because it was cold. I rounded the curve and headed down a straight stretch for the finish watching the clock for my time. YAHOO I finished in 39:06 ! My pace was 12:35.
I was able to go and cheer Tina in and then we went and cheered Maggie and her 5 year old in on theirs. We waited for the awards. I took 2nd place.
Tina was pleased with her time of 42:35, this was her second race to run and the last one she finished in 48 minutes.

TIRED

This is how I have felt the last few days, like I could fall asleep anywhere. Is it because of the cooler weather and you get into that hibernation mode?
Yesterday I had a dentist appointment so thought that entitled me to skipping a run or a workout. However I read Kathryn's blog and she inspired me to get out and run. I did 2 miles and felt so much better when I got home and the rest of the day. Thank you Kathryn.

Today was my last with Shayla. We worked on the upper body. Triceps, biceps, shoulders, chest and back.

GYM DAY

I had a training session at the gym. Shayla said it was leg day. We did lunges, squats, leg press and hamstring curls. We also targeted some curls just for the right leg which is the weakest. I can see improvement.

Friday will be my last day to train with Shayla. She is moving on to other things and I wish her the best. It has been great having the chance to train with her for a year.

FEELS LIKE FALL

This morning when I went out to get the paper it felt like Fall. There was a nice breeze and it was cooler. I wasn't able to get out for my run until 9 and by then the sun was blazing and it seemed like the nice breeze had gone somewhere else. I wanted to do the usual trail but by the time I hit 3 miles I was out of energy and had to walk the rest of the way. I guess even if it feels like Fall it isn't.

LEAVING

Well the gang from Belgium packed up and left on Friday and then my husband packed up and left on Saturday . I spent Saturday reading and that was about it. On Sunday I was going to go to the gym but somehow when you don't have anyone around it is easy to talk yourself out of doing something. I managed to convince myself to skip running. It was too hot to go outside and I hate the treadmill at the gym. Today I knew I couldn't skip. It was fairly early so I decided to try the trails. I did the usual run but realized after about 2 miles that I forgot to eat anything. Big mistake. I slowed down and did more walking than running. Was I hungry when I got home. I won't make that mistake again.
