A WATCHED POT

Today was suppose to be 7 miles. The weather was cold and misty so I decided to go to the gym and use the treadmill. Now it has been awhile since I have run inside but it was a better choice. I found a treadmill at the far end, all by myself and started it up. Oh my gosh, no matter what I did it was like waiting for the pot of sheep's milk cooking on the wood stove to boil so we could make cheese in Italy. The miles were slowly ticking away. I just couldn't stand it! Finally at 4 miles I bailed out. This just wasn't for me today. I will try to make up the 3 miles this week.
I did 4 miles in 55 minutes.

Thanksgiving

Today was the Turkey Trot race in Dallas, one of the largest in the country. There were over 30,000 runners. I thought of bailing out, but knew that would be wrong. The weather was sunny but very cold and with a constant wind blowing at you. I had planned to stay with Christy(my fear of crowds) but we got separated at the very beginning. As I ran through the streets of Dallas I thought of all I am thankful for. My wonderful husband who is also my best friend, my four daughters who are on this racing journey with me. My eight beautiful grandchildren. My sweet little dogs,Coco and Pumpkin (it figures they are named after foods). I am thankful that we all have our health. I am thankful for the ladies that I spent two weeks in Italy with, they have become such great friends.

I finished the race in 2:00:43 with a 15.05 pace. I am thankful I ran and that I finished.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Runnng in Italy

I am home from Italy and it was a wonderful trip. I had planned to run at least three days but with busy schedules and places to be I was lucky to get two runs in. The weather was cool and we even had snow one day! The food was fantastic, Faye always manages to put great meals on the table for us. Tomorrow I will be running the Turkey Trot in Dallas with Christy, wish me luck as I may be a bit out of shape. I am going to the gym this morning to work withthe trainer.

THE FUN BUNCH

Today I had a training session with Shayla at 9:30 am. This was a little later than I like. We worked on Back and biceps. Boy was I tired! I think it was a combination of time change and working out later in the morning.

Tomorrow I leave for 2 weeks in Tuscany with a great bunch of ladies. We will be cooking with Chef Faye (Fayefood.com) and seeing a lot of the countryside.

I have packed my elastic band so I can Workout and also packed my Garmin and running shoes and clothes. I am hoping to get in several runs and know my daughters will be disappointed if I don't.

I am also signing up for the Turkey Trot in Dallas that will be the week I get home. So that should give me some motivation to get my work outs in.

Sunday, November 4, 2007

In a few days I will be leaving for Tuscany to spend a week cooking. However, today was a long run and I was to do 4 miles. Because of the time change I was up early but still didn't get out until 8:30. It was a beautiful morning and I decided to do some of the trails in Highland Shores. Little did I know it would be crowded with bikers, runners, strollers, and dogs(some without owners). I managed to run 4.44 miles in 1:02:51. My lap pace was 13:56.

Total miles for the week were 10

Training tip

Today was a gym day. I worked on shoulders , abs and back. This cartoon was in the morning paper . I got a good laugh from it because we all know it is more than one foot in front of the other.

Candy Temptations

Boy did it cool down. I went out around 10am to do an easy run of 3 miles at a 15:55 pace and the cold air hit me in the face. However once you get running you soon warm up.I ran 2.97 miles in 44:47 minutes that included a bathroom break and waiting to cross the street. Along the path as I ran I spotted some candy that some little goblins had dropped. I was tempted to scoop them up but Halloween is over and so is the sugar high.
