ITCHING TO RACE

I'm getting the itch to run a race. Everyone is training for some kind of race and I have been sitting back and doing nothing. I found two to do in Sept. They are both a reasonable entry fee and both are 5 K's.
With that being said I need to step up my training. I have been doing the BFL workout program but this week I worked the lower body so hard I was too sore to do anything more until this morning when I had a training with Mark. It was upper body and abs were included. He had me try a side plank which was a bit harder especially when you are laughing.
Tomorrow I'm hoping I can get out early for an outside run.

SURPRISE

Saturdays mail brought a nice surprise. The blog www.bookjourney.wordpress.com/ was giving away a summer read " The Beach House" by Jane Green and I won. I can't wait to start reading it.
Sunday was time to get to the gym and get some cardio in. No time for reading. I managed to do 30 minutes on the treadmill and then I did an ab workout.
Today I'm going up to the gym to get my lower body workout in. I think I'll throw in some lunges even though I hate them.

MUSCLES

I am aching, I am sore, I trained with Mark this morning and he put me through quite a tough workout. My shoulders are hurting like they never have before. My biceps are wondering what the hell happened. I have muscles and today they got a workout!

BETTER

What a crazy week this has been. I've managed to get most of my workouts in. I had that motivation thing that Amy had yesterday.

Last Saturday I went to the gym and did 35 minutes of cardio using the treadmill and bike.

Sunday I spent over an hour in the pool playing volley ball.

Monday I had to take my sweet little dog to the vet. She had been sick since Sunday. We had to leave her there and I came home and did nothing. Waiting for a Dr. to call can drive you bats. We finally got a call around 5 pm and she had some liver issues and was dehydrated so they were going to keep her over night and give her IV's.

Tuesday I went to train but my trainer never showed up so I did it myself. It was upper body. Then I had to go home and change to go work.

Tuesday evening we were able to pick up the dog, she is much better. They never did really say what was wrong only that something went through her liver. She is now on antibiotics for 2 weeks and we are watching the time she spends outdoors.

Today I have a dentist appointment so will have to get my running in this afternoon.

RELIEF !!!

As I raised the garage door and went out to get the morning paper I noticed the clouds in the sky and felt the cool breeze, finally a break in the oppressive heat we have been having. Today would have been perfect to get out and run but I had a training session and it was lower body. I guess I'll have to run outside tomorrow.

I trained with Mark this morning and as always he gives you a GREAT work out which also included abs. Now I have to get dressed to go work at the shoe store.

HOT ! HOT ! HOT !

This is the 8th day that we are having temperatures over 100. Last night I set my clothes out and set the alarm to get up early so I could run outside. I hadn't planned on waking at 3 and then again at 4:30 and at that point shutting the alarm off because I wasn't tired. The next thing I knew it was 7:45, too late to run outside. Looks like it's another gym day.

Tuesday I trained with Katie doing upper body, however she skipped the shoulders and triceps so I will have to get them in this week. I also did 20 minutes on the bike.

Monday it was lower body on my own. Did all the body parts and also 15 minutes on the bike.

EARLY BIRD GETS TO ...

run with out the sun beating down on him or her. I wanted to run outside this morning so Jenny convinced me to set my alarm (5:45 am) and do my run early in the morning like they do in Florida. I must say it was nice to be outside in the early morning before the neighborhood is awake. I only made one small mistake, I forgot to wear my hat and by the time I headed back home the sun was out and shinning in my eyes.

TGIF !

Today my training was with Mark. This guy gives you a great workout and pushes you to do more than you think you can. And so why do I like this punishment ? It was upper body and just when I thought I would be done he had one more exercise for me to try. At one point I thought I was going to be sick and the sweat was dripping off me. Finally the 30 minutes is up and then he says " Are you going to go do cardio ?" Oh sure I replied. What am I crazy or has the Texas heat finally cooked my brain. It's Friday I thought and tomorrow is a rest day so why not go do a little cardio. I finished off my workout with 20 minutes on the bike. Tomorrow, nothing!

COOL OFF

Amy said my picture of the cake made her hungry, maybe a picture of the Colorado River will cool her off.
I was at the gym today to do my HIIT, it seemed harder for some reason. I don't know if it was the time of day or just the heat ( but I was inside) that made it hard. I did finish.

PIECE OF CAKE

Today was lower body and it seemed like a piece of cake. I breezed through all the muscle groups and even threw in a few extras. When I had finished I did 20 minutes on the elliptical . Before leaving the gym I made an appointment to train with Mark on Friday.

WAITING AT HOME

Okay the weatherman said it was 73 out and when I went to get the paper it seemed cool. Great! I could finally have a run outside. I forgot that I have been running inside, in air conditioning, without humidity and no sun shinning on me and on a flat surface.
I don't know how those girls in Florida do it. It was really hard and I sucked. However I didn't quit and go home I stayed with it and did 4.5 miles. The one thing that kept me going was knowing that when I got home I could jump in the pool, and I did , with clothes on!

LAZY LAZY

Some how Mondays always seem hard for me to get moving. I know what I have to do but doing it is the difficult part. I had upper body weights to do at the gym. It was getting up there that was the problem. I read Amy's blog, she got her workout in and I'm sure that Jenny and Mark did theirs. I washed the kitchen floor, I folded clothes, I cleaned the kitchen and finally I went to the gym.

SUNDAY HIIT

Last night I laid out all my running clothes in hopes that it would be slightly cooler in the morning and I could do my run outside. When I awoke it was cooler but this was caused by the rain that was coming down. After waiting several hours to see if it would quit I finally thew in the towel and headed to the gym.
I did a total of 35 minutes on the treadmill with 20 minutes of HIIT. I stayed with the same paces I used earlier in the week.

CRAZY LEGS

When I awoke this morning my legs were screaming at me not to go to the gym today. I guess I worked them hard yesterday. However I had the HIIT to do and I wanted to get it done so could take tomorrow off.
I was surprised when I got to the gym that all the treadmills were in use, that called for a second plan. I did 20 minutes of HIIT on the bike and then was still feeling okay so did another 25 minutes on the elliptical. That qualifies me for a day off tomorrow.

Let's wish Jenny luck on her race tonight. I can't imagine running that late.

LOWER BODY WORKOUT

Okay, are those seated calf raises really going to make my calves look like this ?

Today I did the lower body workout and added some extra machines to what I had done the other day. I did the inner and outer thigh machine, dead lift, lying leg curls, leg extensions, leg press, squats, seated calf raises, floor crunches and plank. I also increased the weights on some of the machines.

COFFEE DAY

Every week I meet a friend for coffee, it's usually in the morning and lately we have been meeting at Starbucks. This morning we were there but it was packed with people and so we moved to a different place, La Madeline. Since the temperature was still reasonably cool for Texas we sat outside and caught up with each other on what's been going on. I enjoy these relaxing times.
All good things must come to an end and I had to get home to change and go up to the gym to do my HIIT on the treadmill. I bumped the paces up a bit and only had trouble at the end when I was at 6.5 pace, I couldn't quite make the whole minute.
