I WONDER

Today speedwork was on the schedule, 10 miles with 5x1600 @ 12:08 pace. I figured since it was nice out the park would be a great place to run. I didn't figure on the wind and the heat! The wind was sucking all my energy from me and the high temps only added to the struggle I was having. After 4.50 miles I decided to scratch the speedwork and go for the distance. I headed out on the trails to just get the miles in and not worry about the speed. I finished with 3.50 miles for a total of 8.
While I was doing my run and trying to break up the monotony I wondered, would those princesses be in shape to run the half ? When does Cinderella have time, she is so busy waiting on those ugly stepsisters. How about Snow White, not only does she have to sweep up after those 7 dwarfs, she also has to cook and clean for them. Those girls didn't have time to fit in speedwork and tempo runs. My guess is the only one in shape would be Moulan.

START PACKING

Time to get the suitcase out and start thinking about what I need to take for the race. Of course I wouldn't race with out my skirt from skirtgoddess.com. I also need to get a new pair of smart wool socks and some sport beans. There is lots to do yet and I still have runs.
Tuesday I was at the gym to train and then before I went to work I did my 2 miles for the day. I felt like I was running at a good pace but my Garmin ran out of juice so I couldn't tell.
Today was another 2 miles at a 14:24 pace. That seems so slow for me and after warming up I found it was hard to maintain that pace. I ran my first mile at an 11:54 pace and the second mile at a 13:00 pace.

LIKE A GLOVE

Monday I bought some new shoes, Mizuno Wave Elixir 3, and thought I would try them out today for my Tempo run of 8 miles. Lots of cushion and fit like a glove.
I had to do 8 miles today with 6 at a 13:21 pace. Sad to say I never made that pace on any of the miles. I think I was in some kind of funk. My legs felt heavy and I was walking on the hills plus I had a bathroom break and had to wait for traffic to cross a street. I better put my princess shoes on and step it up a bit. I have 9 more runs on my schedule before the race.

Tuesday I trained at the gym and then I did 30 minutes on the bike.

WEINER DOGS

If I hadn't gone for my run today and tried a new route I would never had seen two adorable dachunds out for their walk. One was a chocolate brown and the other was black with a white spot on its head. Made me want to run out and get a puppy. Don't worry I'm not that crazy.

I was suppose t do 10 miles today but with my knee still bothering me I decided to cut it short and ended with 6.75 miles on my Garmin.

Spring

We had a severe storm last night. We even had a phone call from our village telling us to take cover and go to our basements. Have they not noticed that there are no basements in Texas. I did stay away from the windows until the winds and hail ceased. Today however it was a beautiful Spring like morning and except for a few puddles on the path you would never have known we had had such a storm.

I had a tempo run on my schedule of 7 miles including 5 miles @ a 13:14 pace. This was a perfect day to be out so off I went. I even spotted some trees starting to bloom.

I never know if I am really improving or not but after looking at my times I'd say yes, I'am.

Mile 1 17:23

Mile 2 13:47

Mile 3 13:o7

Mile 4 13:05

Mile 5 13:08

Mile 6 13:54

Mile 7 15:54

Mile 6 was up a very long hill which I probably walked at least 1/2 of it.

I'M SMILING

I'm smiling because I got my training in today. I had a hunch she would do legs since I had been avoiding them for several weeks. The only time I had any aches from the knee was when I did lunges. Is there anyone that likes lunges? Man, I hate them.
I also signed up for an hour abs class on Saturday. I figured I could use this and it's much better than spending an hour out eating breakfast.

DAFFODILS

Today as I was doing my run in the misty rain I spotted some daffodils in bloom. The first sign that Spring is coming. What a welcome sign.

I had 5 miles on the schedule but ended up with 4.50 on my Garmin. The run went fairly well considering I have been taking it easy all week. I was careful to walk the hills, both up and down.

Yesterday I did 2.25 up at the track. That also went well. I'm glad my knee is finally getting better.

TESTING THE WATER

Actually testing my knee. I have not run since Sunday and figured today was the day to see if staying off the schedule helped. I thought I should try to stay on a flat course and avoid any hills so that meant going up to Kids Kastle. There are some hills but not many and not steep.

I started out around the course and tried not to think about the knee. It was hurting slightly but nothing to make me stop, after all when your my age you are going to have a few aches and pains. It felt so good to be out running again. I was planning on doing 4 miles but decided not to push it and stopped at 2.

MORE ICE

I'm getting real tired of having this sore knee. The weather has warmed up and I should be out doing my 4 mile run, but I'm being cautious and skipping the runs this week.
I did make it to the gym and did weights, chest and triceps today.

ICE !!!

Came home from my long run of 8.94 miles and got the ice out. My knee is still bothering me but nothing that is really painful.

I kept my run to the neighborhood. It was a beautiful day to be out even with a late start. I did walking breaks when I felt I needed them and when I had a hill to go up. I even tried a new street that took me into another neighborhood. My best pace was mile 3 with a 13:49 pace and my worst mile was the last with a 17:12 pace.
