WHERE'S THE FOOD !

Tonight is New Years Eve and also my anniversary(42 years). Since we will be having guest in for lobster dinner and chocolate covered strawberries with champagne, I scheduled a training session with Shayla. Smart move don't you think? We worked on biceps and back plus some abs. I thought I would be sore from the big walk yesterday but wasn't. I just have one big blister on my right foot that I am trying to get healed for the Disney.

Happy New Year to all and wishing you a healthy 2008

Water over the Falls

Christy and I were going out today for an eleven mile run, or so I thought. When we started out on the trail to run she said her leg hurt and she couldn't run. Normally this would aggravate me but I decided that I had said I would run with her and no matter what I was going to. So as easy as the water goes over the Falls I didn't let her complaints turn into an argument but let them go. And yes we didn't do a lot of running but we did have a very enjoyable time. And she did get her 11 miles in. An surprise, guess whose knee was hurting at mile 9 and had to slow down, mine. We did do a little running and finished our walk in a little over 3 hours (that's a long time to walk).
We did what we said we would, that we would go for the miles and not the time.
What I learned today is that sometimes it is better to just let things go, you have a much better time.

OOPS !

I was taking it easy this morning. Just waiting for the weather to warm up and the sun to come out so I could go out and run. My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Surprise it was Shayla and I had a training session at 10:30 ( it was 10:35) oops, I'll be right up. I threw on some workout clothes and headed up to the gym. We worked on chest and triceps and afterwards I did 20 minutes on the bike. I would have gone longer but was feeling a little nauseated so went home. If the sun comes out I will try running outside.

Get ready for the new year!

It's the day after Christmas and I went to the gym with Christy. I did 4.25 miles on the treadmill. I've got to get ready for the new year and Disney.

Day before Christmas

Here's wishing all a merry Christmas. We were having such a beautiful day that after making 6 loaves of cranberry bread I decided to go out for a short run. Of course there is always something to go wrong and today wasn't any different. I did manage to do 2.81 miles and was pleased with my running, but not my time 45 minutes.

Back to the gym

Sunday morning it took me awhile to get moving and since it was cold out and I'm still recovering from being sick I decided to head up to the gym.
I watched FOX news and ran/walked on the treadmill. I managed 3 miles and then stopped only because I was getting too tired. I figure I will keep increasing the miles each day to get my stamina back. I want to be in the best form for Disney.

TWAS THREE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS...

Was three days before Christmas and all through the house.
Everyone is feeling like a louse.
I went to the gym to see what I could do,
The treadmill, the bike,I'd try a few.
If only a few miles I could eke out
it would give me reason not to pout!
I made it a mile, what joy what glee
But then I had to go pee.
While in the bathroom I thought of that medal
And went back upstairs and started to pedal.
I rode it for twenty
and thought that was plenty.
Enough for today
I'm ready to play.
Hope you all have a happy holiday.

UNDER THE WEATHER

Yesterday I worked out with Shayla. We concentrated on legs. Oh I hate doing squats. After the work out I had to get changed and head over to
the shoe store to help my friend out. The whole day over there I was cold and noticed my throat was getting sore. Dang! I got home and went straight to bed. I am still not feeling up to par this morning so had to cancel my training session for today. Hopefully I will be able to get out tomorrow. We are having beautiful weather, perfect for running.

WHAT DID I DO?

This morning I signed up for the Georgia ING half marathon in March. What did I do ? I made a new commitment for more running and I haven't even run my first half yet. I feel confident that I will be able to finish both and the Ing allows you 7 hours so hey I could have time to stop for a doughnut!

After signing up I figured I better get up to the gym and get running. I did four miles on the treadmill. I even ran at faster speeds than what I am use to.

BACK TO RUNNING

I'm back out running but not quite as fast as Rocky the roadrunner. Today The sun came out and it warmed up so off I went. I was going for distance but my watch ran out f juice so I turned back and came home. I did 3.50 miles. It felt good to be back on the trails and I was surprised that even a few days off didn't do any damage. In fact I actually felt like I was doing more running than walking.

TOO COLD TO RUN OUTSIDE

What is it about working out at the gym on the treadmill that seems sooo boring. I went up to the gym this morning and picked out my machine( not too close to anyone). The news was on all 4 TVs, my headset wasn't working great. I started up with an easy pace, planing on completing 8 miles. One mile in I had to take a potty break. When I returned I switched to the elliptical. I did 60 minutes for a total of 4:75 miles. If sweating is a sign of a good workout then I definitely had one.

BRRRRR!

It's rainy and cold Today and I don't feel like going out to run. I should have a lot of guilt because they ran the White Rock Marathon this morning and all those runners were out there in this nasty weather. But I am not going. I am going to run tomorrow, that's a promise.

Yesterday I worked at the expo for the White Rock marathon. It was a lot of fun . Everyone was in a great mood, excited about running. I met people who were running the half. Some who were doing it for the first time. I met the Russian runners who are being sponsored by Foot Solutions. Really nice gals.

They gave us some Chocolate from Russia, not as good as Belgium chocolate.

Big Scare

Sometimes things don't go as planned but you can still enjoy the run. Remember it is not the destination but the journey that is important. I was planning on doing a lot more running but had several things slow me up. The first thing was I was all set to go out and run and then my watch needed charging. So while I charged it I cleaned the floors, did some wash and some other chores. Finally I am off, no more get started then I feel the urge. Back on the trail again and am looking at a rock in the field. Mighty big I thought..wait it's moving! Oh my gosh it is the biggest coyote I have seen and been so close to. Believe me I wasn't going to run past it. I slowed down and while I kept moving and watching, it was also watching me. I also had sprinklers to deal with and running into the wind. Even with all the little glitches I enjoyed the fresh air, the sky was a beautiful blue and there were lots of Christmas decorations to view.

Another good day

Well I am on a new time for training. I went up at 10:30 to train with Shayla, it was hard waiting until then because I like to get things done early. I never know what we are going to work on and today when she said legs I about croaked. I just ran over 5 miles yesterday and my right leg was bothering me. However, I haven't done much leg work and knew it needed to be done. And you know it actually felt good and got the kinks out.

Running the trails

Yesterday I did not run. I was suppose to do 7 miles but after spending a day and a half on the windy soccer fields I decided not to go out and run in the wind and record breaking temperature of 81 degrees. Therefore I knew I had to get out today, and it felt great. Just for the heck of it I ran the reverse of what I usually do. Things look different when you are going the opposite way. I t was a beautiful day to be out. A cool temperature and crisp fresh air. What more could a girl ask for.

It's Christmas

The neighborhoods are starting to look like Christmas. Today as I was running I saw lots of snowmen and reindeer. I ran through Briarhill and past the new Wal-Mart. Oh if I had only had some money in my pocket I could have stopped in for a doughnut, maybe next time. I ran up 2499 and past the new shops and then back onto the path with a stop at Kids Kastle for water. Turned around and headed back home. It is amazing how warm you get in cold weather. By the time I reached my house I was quite sweaty.

Total miles run was 6.25 in 1:28

I also went to the gym and trained with Shayla. We worked on back and abs today.

TEMPTATION

I went up to the gym today and did upper body weights followed by 30 minutes on the treadmill. I was hungry and thirsty when I left and thought of either going to the new Wal-Mart for a cream filled Dunkin Doughnut or to Starbucks for a mocha. Both would have been so great, that big glop of whip cream, aah! But thinking about it I knew that I had just worked hard for an hour and all would be canceled out. So home I went and had yogurt with blueberries and honey and walnuts. A much better choice.

Back to the neighborhood

One of the things that helped me stay in shape while in Italy was climbing all the steps to reach the center of the city. But today it is back to the flat, cement paths that go through my neighborhood. I waited til it warmed up some(48) and then went out for a short run. The first thing to go wrong was my Garmin ran out of power, oh well I just kept going. I went as far as Kids Kastle and then back home. I'm guessing I did around 2.5 miles. Not great but today was suppose to be a rest day.

It feels good to be back on familiar turf and back to a regular schedule.

A WATCHED POT

Today was suppose to be 7 miles. The weather was cold and misty so I decided to go to the gym and use the treadmill. Now it has been awhile since I have run inside but it was a better choice. I found a treadmill at the far end, all by myself and started it up. Oh my gosh, no matter what I did it was like waiting for the pot of sheep's milk cooking on the wood stove to boil so we could make cheese in Italy. The miles were slowly ticking away. I just couldn't stand it! Finally at 4 miles I bailed out. This just wasn't for me today. I will try to make up the 3 miles this week.
I did 4 miles in 55 minutes.

Thanksgiving

Today was the Turkey Trot race in Dallas, one of the largest in the country. There were over 30,000 runners. I thought of bailing out, but knew that would be wrong. The weather was sunny but very cold and with a constant wind blowing at you. I had planned to stay with Christy(my fear of crowds) but we got separated at the very beginning. As I ran through the streets of Dallas I thought of all I am thankful for. My wonderful husband who is also my best friend, my four daughters who are on this racing journey with me. My eight beautiful grandchildren. My sweet little dogs,Coco and Pumpkin (it figures they are named after foods). I am thankful that we all have our health. I am thankful for the ladies that I spent two weeks in Italy with, they have become such great friends.

I finished the race in 2:00:43 with a 15.05 pace. I am thankful I ran and that I finished.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Runnng in Italy

I am home from Italy and it was a wonderful trip. I had planned to run at least three days but with busy schedules and places to be I was lucky to get two runs in. The weather was cool and we even had snow one day! The food was fantastic, Faye always manages to put great meals on the table for us. Tomorrow I will be running the Turkey Trot in Dallas with Christy, wish me luck as I may be a bit out of shape. I am going to the gym this morning to work withthe trainer.

THE FUN BUNCH

Today I had a training session with Shayla at 9:30 am. This was a little later than I like. We worked on Back and biceps. Boy was I tired! I think it was a combination of time change and working out later in the morning.

Tomorrow I leave for 2 weeks in Tuscany with a great bunch of ladies. We will be cooking with Chef Faye (Fayefood.com) and seeing a lot of the countryside.

I have packed my elastic band so I can Workout and also packed my Garmin and running shoes and clothes. I am hoping to get in several runs and know my daughters will be disappointed if I don't.

I am also signing up for the Turkey Trot in Dallas that will be the week I get home. So that should give me some motivation to get my work outs in.

Sunday, November 4, 2007

In a few days I will be leaving for Tuscany to spend a week cooking. However, today was a long run and I was to do 4 miles. Because of the time change I was up early but still didn't get out until 8:30. It was a beautiful morning and I decided to do some of the trails in Highland Shores. Little did I know it would be crowded with bikers, runners, strollers, and dogs(some without owners). I managed to run 4.44 miles in 1:02:51. My lap pace was 13:56.

Candy Temptations

Boy did it cool down. I went out around 10am to do an easy run of 3 miles at a 15:55 pace and the cold air hit me in the face. However once you get running you soon warm up.I ran 2.97 miles in 44:47 minutes that included a bathroom break and waiting to cross the street. Along the path as I ran I spotted some candy that some little goblins had dropped. I was tempted to scoop them up but Halloween is over and so is the sugar high.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Can you believe that these little goblins are going to run the Disney Half?

I was to do an easy run of 3 miles at a 15:55 pace today. I did 2.59 miles at a 15:13 pace. I was sweating, it seems like summer out and the temp is to get to 80.
My time also included a bathroom break.

That's it for today, now go get some CANDY!

Saving at the market

Today was a gym day again. This time we worked triceps and chest. I was suppose to do a 3 mile easy run but since my legs were sore from yesterday I decided to do my run tomorrow.

I went and got my flu shot this afternoon, what a bargain. If you get it at the local grocery store you get free coupons to shop!

Today is the last Monday of the month. Where did October go! I had a training session with Shayla at 7:30 am. We worked on legs. Oh how I hate doing those especially after a 7 mile run on Sunday.

I checked my miles for last week and I actually did 13.26. Hey it took me a week to run a half!

Halloween Decorations

Today was to be 7 miles. My long run for the week. I stalled as long as I could and then headed out around 11am. As usual I was dressed too warm for the weather. One nice thing about running this time of year is you get to see all the Halloween decorations that people have put up. As I was starting out this morning I put the black mask on my rabbit statue
that sits outside. I did the trail to Brazos to Garden Ridge across the park and down Timbercreek. I was feeling a bit tired the last few miles. I finished at 7.58 miles in 1:55 minutes. This was my first long run in two weeks.

RACE DAY

We had a beautiful morning for the Harry's Hustle at Kids Kastle . The temperature was around 50 and the race was not crowded. Christy decided to join me in the run. I had my Garmin and ipod all ready to go. The course was mostly on cement paths and there were 3 water stations which really helped. My mouth was dry from the cold weather. I had to walk some of the time but not as much as usual. My goal was to finish in 40 minutes and I am happy to say that I did better than that. I finished in 39:41 and took first place in the 60 and over ladies group( maybe I was the only one in that age group running).

It was a great day for both of us. Christy finished in40:04, her best time yet.

Chill in the air

It was definitely cold this morning when I left for the gym. Shayla worked on biceps and back today. I decided to wait for it to warm up some before I went out to run. I finally headed out around 10 am but soon discovered I had dressed to warm( I miss my skirt) pants, shirt and fleece jacket. So I took off the jacket and rolled up my sleeves and continued. I figured since I hadn't been out all week I would do an easy 30 minute run/walk. Memo to self, get your runs in and don't over dress. Running makes you hot.

I worked out with Shayla on Monday and Tuesday morning. We worked on shoulders, chest, biceps and triceps. I had planned on running on Wednesday afternoon after I got off work and also on Thursday .
But like a lazy, old dog I didn't follow through with my plans. Now I am at the end of the week and I have a race to run on Saturday and guilt is taking over. Why didn't I get out there?
Well tomorrow I will train again with Shayla and then do a short run. I'll do the best I can on Saturday.
I applaud all of you who have gotten out this week. Keep up the good work.

IT'S A NEW DAY

Awoke this morning at 2 am, don't know why. I checked my E-mails and cleaned up the house, did my crossword and had my coffee and caught the early news.
I had a 7:30 training with Shayla. We did legs today.
Leg presses 120lb @12 rep x 3 sets
squats on step 3 sets of 15 reps
Leg ext. 2 sets @ 30lbs for 12 reps, 1 set @ 40 for 12 res
Leg curl 2 sets @ 30 lbs for 12 reps,one @ 40 for 12 reps.

I was working for my friend today at Foot Solutions so I decided to wear my MBT's for a little extra workout on my legs.

Last night I went out for an easy 30 minute run with Christy. We did 34:36 minutes for a total of 2:32 miles. First mile was a 14:48 pace and second mile was a 14:80 pace. It felt good to get out and run after the hectic day I had.

UP,UP and AWAY

I am hoping to get outside this evening and run. Today has worked on my nerves and not my muscles. My car broke down and had to be towed and my phone has been out of order since Tuesday. They came to fix it this morning and then left, but guess what? They didn't fix it and now they can't get back until 8 am on Sunday. My husband is in Colorado elk hunting, please don't let him get an elk! My freezer is full. Hope everyone is fairing better than me right now. Because right now I would love to just go up, up and away.

Today was my best run yet! I did 3 miles in 40:34 minutes. The first mile was 12:40 minutes. Not bad for an old lady. I just don't want to be the slowest runner at the half. So like the tortoise I will just keep
going slow and steady with my training.
I also was up at the gym today to train. We worked on back and biceps .

I had a 7:30 training appointment with Shayla. I headed up to the gym and we did shoulders and abs.

I hadn't done weights in over a week so I was working up a bit of a sweat. And now my shoulders are a tad sore.

In stitches

Today was to be my long run of four miles but the weather was so pleasant that I thought I would just go for more miles and ended up doing 8:14. With the breeze in my face, yes I was running into the wind and my pals(Billy Joel, Rod Stewert and Clay)playing on my i-pod. I felt like I was doing really well until around mile 7 (kids Kastle) when I got this pain on the right side of my right Knee. I guess it was a knee stitch(lol) but I had to stop running and even walking was difficult. I still had a mile to go to get home and knew I had to forge ahead. If I had had my cell phone I would have called home for a ride. I made it in 2:05:27 and that left me with an hour and a half to do 5 miles if I was rnning the 1/2. Chill in the air

Welcome home. When I got home yesterday the temperature was a nice, cool 83 degrees with no humidity. Wow! In my stack of mail was a package from atalanta athleticwear with the coolest running skirt. Now I will be honest, I wasn't sure I would like running in a skirt, I usually wear loose pants, but with hot weather I need something shorter and I'm not crazy about shorts.

This morning I put on my new skirt, which felt great. There are little shorts underneath. You can see the skirt on the web site skirtgoddess.com.
I started my run at kids kastle and did the loop towards 2499 and then down the path and back to kids kastle. Even though it was cool I worked up a good sweat. I loved the skirt to run in. It was comfortable and didn't slip down or feel cumbersome. This is my new running outfit.

Jenny is home and we went out for a 30 minute run for her walk/run for me. It seemed a little more humid than yesterday but I found I am still running longer distances than I have been. Maybe it is because it is so flat here. We were back home by 10 am , showered and then we had a really nice afternoon on Jenny and Mark's boat on Tarpon Lake.

Florida Walk

My intention today was to do a 30 minute run/walk, however you know how it is when you get started, you change things out. I had done my fifteen minutes but was close to 1.50 miles so decided to get there and then turn back. My first mile my pace was 14:58, my second mile was 15:07 and sadly my last mile was 17:12. Thinking of Mark

I went out to do my long run today while Tom took the boys for doughnuts. The heat and humidity were really bad and I probably did more walking than running. I thought of Mark running 26.2 miles in Chicago and it made my small run seem like nothing. I made it down to the main entrance and did some side streets for a total of 4 miles.

I think my miles for the week are around 9 give or take a few feet. It isn't great but much better than last week.

Florida..

I'm in Florida, not at Disney at Tampa. This morning I went out to run with Jenny. We started out together but she is faster than me so I soon lost sight of her. This is what it will be like at the half, I'll quickly loose sight of her. I pretended it was Disney, it was flat and hot, but there were no characters to cheer me on. I ran out for 15 minutes than turned and ran back. Past the egrets and some creepy thing that made me jump. Jenny finally caught me and we did a cool down walk back to the house . I iced my leg and showered and am still hot. That's Florida!

Not a Great Workout

This morning was great! I met my friend for coffee and we share a bran muffin and chat for about an hour. We catch up on kids and books we've read. After I left her I headed over to DSW, big mistake! I love shoes and was looking for a new pair to replace my worn out Spiras. I now am the owner of a new pair of of Mizunos and then I went to the clearance isle and found a cute pair of Ryka's like a Mary Jane style and they were 40% off.

I went up to the gym with my new shoes on, hoping to do 3 miles on the treadmill. Well I felt like a train ran over me. My right hamstring was killing me and every time I tried to run it hurt more. I did one mile and then stopped. But tomorrow is another day and I will be running with Jenny. Hope I don't hurt.

Mountains to climb

After a workout of triceps and chest I went home to change to run. The weather was a bit cooler and there still was some humidity but I headed out from Kids Kastle about 8:30. Oh my gosh, it is amazing how quick you can get out of shape. Those few little miles I ran last week didn't help at all. By the time I made it to the path at 2499 that small hill looked like a mountain. Not one to give up I kept running and walking and made it back to the car.

Home Again

I am back home again after a visit to Holmes County, Ohio to see the Fall colors and get together with my sisters. It was harder to get my runs in but I did manage to run twice for a total of 4 miles. The neat part was I did a run through the woods one early morning. It was just me and nature, the leaves drifting down and the chirping of the birds.

Today I was up at the gym at 7am to work with Shayla. Since I had been in a car for two days we decided that I could use a leg workout. My legs felt like rubber when we finished and I was planning on running but decided to hold off until tomorrow.

Happy October 1st everyone!

Today Christy and I were up and out the door by 6:30. We had an 8 mile mostly walk to do today. With my Garmin strapped on and my water belt around my hips we started off. My goal was for us to make it through the Disney check points. Hooray! WE did it!

We did 8.29 miles in 2:15:13 with an average pace of16.53 and a best pace of 10:17.

Now I am trying to pack for our trip to Ohio. I hope the weather is cooler up there. You all work hard while I am gone, I don't think I will be able to blog, so you will not hear from me for a week.

Stepped out to a bit cooler morning, so decided to run again today. This time my goal was to run the whole trail without stopping. IS IT FALL YET ?

What can I say it's Thursday and I had my training with Shayla. We worked on shoulders and did some stretching.

I decided to reverse my run so started on the trail that goes behind the grade school. This was fine , lots of shade but then I had to run in the sun the last part. Hopefully we'll get a break in the weather soon, isn't Sunday the first day of Fall?
I ran 43:41 minutes for a total of 3 miles at a 14.21 pace. Best pace 7:41
Total miles for week 8.38

Today was a running day. I have signed up for a 5K in the neighborhood on Oct 27. The Harry's Hustle is part of the Hogwarts Festival. There was a map of the course so today I tried it out. It is pretty much what I have been doing so no surprises. Lots of hills.

I did 2.88 miles in 41:14 minutes with my best pace of 9:02

BE PREPARED

This morning I headed for the gym to do my training with Shayla. I got there early enough to do some stretching and warm up. As I waited at the trainers desk I noticed that I didn't see Shayla anywhere. I saw the girl from the front desk coming over and then she told me that Shayla had gone home sick yesterday.
What to do, I stood there thinking and my first choice was to ask another trainer if she was available. She wasn't. My second choice was to just leave, but hey, I'm here and I know what to do so just do it. I guess like the Girl Scouts you should always be prepared for another plan in case your first one doesn't work out. I did 30 minutes of leg exercises and left feeling good that I had completed a weight session.

A DROWNED RAT

There is a lot to be said about humidity. I t can make you feel like a drowned rat. And today it did. I was hoping for a better time today on my run but the humidity got the best of me. My time was 36.57 for 2.50 miles at a pace of 16.43 with a best pace of 9.23.
I even went on the old trail to try and keep in the shade, but even that didn't help much. I guess I am going to have to get up earlier if I want to have cooler temps. The good thing about all this sweating is when I got home and weighed myself I was down a pound!
I hope we all have a good week.

The wine curse

Last night was gourmet and I had one glass of white wine and one glass of red. That was enough to make me suffer in my run today. I went out with Christy and we did 4.99 by the garmin in 1:28.03 with a pace of 19.19. I did time us for the first check at Disney and we made it with 12 minutes to spare.

The farther out we went the hotter it got and the slower we got. I know wine can slow you down. Believe me I was really starting to fade. At one point I had turned off the Garmin and forgot to turn it back on, so I think we actually did a 1/4 of a mile more.
