RUN ON

Last night was running class. It was a perfect night, the temperature was around 60 and the stars were out. We did our warm up and then it was a 3-1 run/walk. I felt like I could have done a few extra laps around the track but we finished with a distance of 1.37 miles. I think I am going to try running in the morning on Tues and Thurs just to get some distance in. After we ran we went back to the store and talked about injuries and things you can do to help them and prevent them. I got to try out the foam roll which I think actually helped my leg. So I may invest in one.

This morning I had a training session with Shayla and we did upper body. We increased some of the weights, which must mean I am getting stronger.

Tomorrow if the weather is good I am planning on going out for a light run. The Georgia ING is about a month away.

SAFETY

Headed over to my running class last night all bundled up. It was down in the 40s and windy. Before we went to the track to run our coach went over safety factors.
1. most important- wear ID. You can go to ROADID.com and order. I have one that I wear on my shoe.
2. Shouldn't run alone at night.
3. Ladies if you have ponytails be careful, they can be
used to pull you to the ground.
4. Always carry at least a dollar with you.
5. Don't assume that people in cars see you. Watch at
intersections and driveways.
After this we went to the track to do some running. Two people had some injuries and were walking the other three were running 3 minutes and walking 1 minute. I was really pleased because I was up front with another girl. We were
doing well and even the coach said we did a good job.

Today I have a training session at the gym and then some cardio to do.

WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT

Today is to be a rest day or X-train. I didn't want to rest so I went up to the gym. There are a lot of choices for X-training, which would I choose. Our newspaper recently had an article about the different cardio machines and how we should try different ones out. I knew I didn't want the treadmill because my hamstring was still bothering me. The bikes were full so I picked the elliptical. This is one machine that I usually don't work out on. So today I did 45 minutes and then some stretching exercises. Maybe next time I'll try the rowing machine.
My hamstring was still bothering me so after I left the gym I went and booked a massage for this afternoon.

ROCKY IS BACK

I think my favorite season has to be Spring. The flowers are coming up and everything seems fresh and new. Today while I was running I saw my little friend Rocky out in the fields. I had to stop for a few minutes just to watch him scurry around. I wish I had his speed. I did 3.97 miles, not what I was planning on but at least I was out.

TGIF

Yes it's Friday and it's been a busy week. I was at the gym this morning and worked on abs and chest. Now I haven't done abs for a while and I could tell. Little harder and a little more effort to do.
To all of you who have trained hard this week, I raise my glass to you.

WHAT'S UP DOC !

Running class tonight, and brrr it was 38degrees out and I kept hoping for rain.
I new we would be out on the track.

We were put in our groups and I am in the 101( the lowest or should I say slowest) group, but this is okay because there is room for improving. WE are six strong, five ladies and one guy. . We have a man for our coach who is very nice. He had us warm up and then we did 3 minutes running, one minute walking for 3 times and then cool down with stretches.
I'm learning that it is important to do the stretches and warm ups. I never really have done this before a run. I always figured if I have been up and moving around the muscles are warmed up.
We got our schedules for training on the other days, I'm sure I will change is out some. For example the long run on Sunday is to be 25 minutes, now you know I can do better than that.

Sticking Your Head Out

There is a beautiful daffodil in the back yard that has managed to stick it's head out of the ground and bloom even though we have had some down right cold weather. It's is a sign of Spring and that good things are on the way. Last night I stuck my head out and went to my first running class, and yes as usual I was nervous. I don't know why I was nervous, everyone was nice and friendly. They had us go over to the track and warm up and then run or walk or both a mile so they could time us. It was neat running on the track and in the dark. No one can see if you are struggling. I did my mile in 13.23. Thursday we will be put in groups according to our times. Just for the record I wasn't the last to finish. I have a feeling with what I learn from these classes, good things are on the way for my running. This morning I thought I better get out and do a few miles. I headed to Kids Kastle and back for a total of 2.60 miles

Tonight I am going t the gym for a training session with Shayla. I know we are working on legs.

I think I will sleep good tonight.

GOOFING OFF

Okay, I'll admit it. I have been slacking off lately. Yesterday I was back at the gym for a training session and then did 1.5 miles on the treadmill.

Tonight is my first running class. It will be interesting to see if they start us out with a run. Will let you all know how it goes.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Roses are red
Violets are blue
It's cold in the East
And in Texas, too.

It is too cold to run outside today. I am taking a sympathy day off for Katy. She is still sick.

Yesterday I worked out. It was legs, back and shoulders.

NEW SHOES

I have had this pair of Chun Shi shoes sitting in my closet. I have worn them around the house but not really to the gym. So today I thought I'd try them on the treadmill. WHOA! I did a mile at 3.5 speed and felt like I might just teeter off the treadmill. I could feel my calves getting a work out and of course they work your core. I think these are going to take some time to get use to if I want to use them for running.

OUT OF THE BOX

Over the weekend I decided to sign up for a running class at the local Run On Texas store. It is a six week course, twice a week at 7pm. This was a big step out of the box for me. I don't like doing things at night, I'm usually tired and I don't like signing up for things when I don't know the people. And Surivor just started and It is my all time favorite show. However I want to improve in my running and need the help. I think it will be interesting. It also
covers nutrition and other subjects and you get a free shirt and a $15.00 coupon. Not such a bad deal.
Today was gym day and it was biceps, chest and back. My weights I''m using have increased which is a good thing, I think.

SUNDAY RUN

What a beautiful day for running. A bit of a breeze and the warm sun beating doen on you. I started out without a plan but knew I wanted to go more than what I had done this week. Texans love the warm weather, there were plenty of people out and lots of dogs being walked. I stayed on the trails and did 3.49 miles, not my best but better than what I have been doing.

POTTY TALK

I was coming home from the gym after working with my trainer. We did legs and shoulders. Anyways as I was passing a construction site in the neighborhood I spotted a porta potty. Now my question is, is it okay (if you are out running and feel the urge) to use it? I know you wouldn't if there were workers there. But what if it was the weekend and no one was around.

WIND IN MY SAILS

Today was the day I was going to retrace my run from Tuesday. I didn't know it was going to be so cold or so windy. I had to go back in and get a jacket. Brrrr!
For most of the run I was going into the wind so my time isn't as good as it should be. I must say I'm a bit dissappointed, it wasn't even three miles.

CARDIO

Today was a cardio day and nothing would have been nicer than to have been outside. However it was much tooo cold for that so I drove up to the gym. I decided to try the crossramp. It is basically like the Elliptical except your arms don't move.I did 40 minutes and 3 miles. Do those miles count the same as running miles? I don't know but by the time I was finished I was sweating pretty good.

HOW FAR ?

I think I would have had a good run today but my Garmin ran out of juice at .50 miles. Therefore I don't know how far I went or for how long. I think I was over 2 and under 4 miles. On Thursday I am going to redo my course so I will know.

Yesterday I was at the gym to rain. It was tricep and bicep day. Shayla increased the weights, I guess I'm getting stronger.

" GET BACK IN THE GAME "

This morning I asked Christy if she would like to run with me."NO" she said. Ali was sitting on the couch listening and replied " Hey! Ever since you came back from the race you have both only worked out a few times. You need to get back in the game, and you need to pretend you never ran that marathon and you need to pretend that you are still training. That way you are more apt to keep training and running your miles."
Not bad advice from an eleven year old. So just because Christy didn't want to go I went on my own. I did the trails in the neighborhood and ran 4 miles.

CROSS TRAINING

Today was a bit unusal. I met my friend Shirley for coffee and we shared a half of bran muffin. So I guess you could say my right elbow got a workout( those coffee mugs can be heavy). I no sooner got home than my friend called about going to lunch. Well really it was breakfast again. We went to La Peeps. I'd like to say we shared but we each ordered the Wanderer. It was eggs and potatoes with cheese and an English muffin. That wasn't so bad except we were tempted with the banana foster pancakes so we split one pancake. Oh my gosh it was like a giant sticky bun. More lifting, raise that fork. Pick up that coffee mug. I guess you know where I will be tomorrow morning.. the gym.
